In plain words

The One is beyond reach and beyond measuring - and yet whoever speaks of Him is set free.

Nanak says: listen, friends - here is the wonderful story of the good-hearted ones who live close to Him.

The Unreachable becomes reachable among those who live close to Him.
The deeper layer

The One is too big to reach, and yet just speaking of the One sets you free.

Those two facts do not seem to fit together. Agam agaadh paarbarahm so-ay — the Supreme One is beyond reach and too deep to measure. Jo jo kahai so muktaa ho-ay — yet whoever speaks of the One is set free.

What connects them? This whole ashtapadee, a song of eight verses, gives the answer. The answer is the saadh, the Holy: good-hearted people who live close to the One. Among them, the One who cannot be measured becomes something you can taste.

Sun meetaa — listen, friends. This is not a lecture. It is a story shared among friends, like one told around a campfire. That circle of friends is already a small Sangat. It is the very thing this song praises.

A Question to Sit With

Who is the most good-hearted person you know - and what happens to you when you spend time with them?
