The Closing Saloks, Savaiye The Formless Beyond Beginning

The One feeds every living thing — not a single creature is forgotten.

The Arc

A Vaahiguroo verse on the beginningless One: no one can say where it came from, because it never began. Even Brahma and Vishnu are among the created; all 8.4 million forms of life are fed.

Key Vocabulary

kad kaa — how far back; the One has no beginning. chavraaseeh lakh jon — the 8.4 million species of life. nirankaar — the Formless One.

Themes and Cross-Connections

Beginninglessness; a quiet leveling that places even the great gods among the created; and universal, caring providence.

For the Closing Saloks

A vision of a One that forgets no creature.

Translation Notes

Placing Brahma and Vishnu among the created is a leveling move, handled evenhandedly and without disrespect.
