He is Potent to give Protection, He is the Lover of His Saints. O Nanak, the Lord God blesses all with bliss. ||19||

In plain words

Remembering the One, the darkness fills with light. Singing the One's praises, wrongs are broken apart.

Keeping the One in the heart, and doing pure, good deeds, even the dark messengers back away in fear.

The coming and going of births ends, all peace is found, and the sight of the One always bears fruit.

The One can shelter anyone, and loves the saints. Nanak says: that Lord brings joy and safety to all.

Remembering the One brings light into the dark.
The deeper layer

Remembering the One brings light into the dark, and a heart that holds the One has nothing left to fear.

AnDhkaar simrat parkaasan: remembering, the dark becomes light. Gun ramant agh khandnah: singing the One's qualities breaks wrongs apart. Rid basant bhai bheet dootah: when the One lives in the heart, the doot, the dark messengers, are the ones who become afraid. Karam karat mahaa niramleh: and the deeds become very pure.

Janam maran rahant: the round of birth and death ends. Saran jogan sant pari-a: the One is able to shelter, and loves the saints. Khayman karot: the One gives safety and joy.

A Question to Sit With

When you are scared of something in the dark of your mind, what 'light' helps you see it more clearly?
