Save me, save me - I have come to Your Sanctuary, O my Lord and Master; Nanak prays to the Lord. ||48||

In plain words

O greed, you grab hold of even the greatest and toss them about with wave after wave.

You make people run around in every direction, wobbling and shaking.

Because of you, people forget their friends, their ideals, their relatives, even their mother and father.

You make them do what they should not do, eat what they should not eat, and build what they should not build.

Nanak prays: save me, save me! O Master, I have come to Your shelter, O Lord who is everywhere.

Greed never says enough; the cry for help turns us to the One.
The deeper layer

Greed always wants more, and it pushes aside even the people we love most.

Lobh, greed, comes like waves, one after another. It sends people running in every direction. It makes them forget friends, ideals, family, even their own mother and father. It gets them to do, eat and build what they should not.

More never says "enough." The salok ends with a cry, taraahi taraahi, save me, save me, and with coming to the One's shelter. Greed is a trap to escape, and turning to the One is the way out.

A Question to Sit With

When you get one thing you wanted, do you often start wanting the next? What would help you feel 'enough'?
