Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa
The hunter sees the deer and aims his weapons at it.
But Nanak says: whoever the Lord of the World protects, not a single hair of theirs is touched.
Held by the One, you can stand in the open unafraid.
Whoever the One keeps safe stays untouched, even with danger close by.
Marigee paykhant baDhik: the hunter spots the deer and takes aim. It is a picture of danger close at hand. Aho jas-y rakhayn gopaalah: but the one the Lord of the World protects, rom na chhayd-yatay, not a hair is cut.
The salok speaks of the One's keeping. Many readers hear it as the steadiness of a heart held by the One, which fear cannot pierce.
