The One took up power and came into the world.
The Formless One took form, and with that Light lit up every corner of the world.
The One fills every place. The lamp of the Shabad, the Guru's word, has been lit.
Whoever gathers the heart of the teaching is joined to the feet of the One.
Lehna, who became Guru Angad, and Guru Amar Das came into the pure house of Guru Nanak.
Guru Amar Das carries us across. Lifetime after lifetime, I come to the shelter of your feet.
The Formless One took a form and lit a lamp the whole world can see by.
The Formless (nirankaar) took form and lit the realms with its light (jot), and the lamp of the Shabad has been lit for all. Whoever gathers its heart merges in the One. The line naanak kul nimmal avtar-yi-o speaks of the one Light coming into Guru Nanak's pure house and carried on through Guru Angad and Guru Amar Das. The closing janam janam paa saran tu-a asks to stay at the Guru's feet lifetime after lifetime. The bard is Keerat.
