Savaiye in Praise of Guru Amar Das (by the bard Keerat), Verse 15 — a boat wide enough for everyone

Guru Nanak gathered the True Naam of the Creator and planted it firmly within.
Through him, Lehna became Guru Angad, who stayed lovingly tuned to his feet.
In that family is Guru Amar Das, the home of hope. How can I tell all his goodness?
His goodness cannot be known or measured. I do not know where it ends.
The Creator, who shapes every life, made him a boat to carry all his generations across, together with the Sangat.
Keerat says: O Guru Amar Das, protect me, save me. I come to the shelter of your feet.
Guru Amar Das is the home of hope, a boat wide enough to carry everyone across together.
The verse traces the line of the Gurus. Guru Nanak gathered the True Naam and planted it; through him Lehna became Guru Angad; and Guru Amar Das of that line is the home of hope (aasaa nivaas). The Creator shaped him as a boat (bohitha-o) to carry all his generations across, and the whole Sangat with them, the Sangat being people gathered together to remember the One.
The closing taraahi taraahi tu-a paa saran, "save me, save me, I come to the shelter of your feet," is the posture of ardaas, prayer: honest asking with open hands. The bard is Keerat.
