Savaiye in praise of Guru Ram Das, Verse 10 — a room furnished with peace
Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa
Your bed is faith, your blankets are calm, your canopy is contentment, and you are always dressed in the armor of humility.
Through the Guru's Word you live the Naam. You lean on it for support, and you give your fragrance to everyone around you.
You live with the True Guru, the One never born, good and pure.
Kal says: Guru Ram Das, you live in the pool of calm.
Guru Ram Das lives in a room built of good qualities.
The bed, sayj, is made of faith. The blankets are calm. Over it hangs a canopy of contentment. And the Guru wears humility like armor.
Through the Guru's Word, he lives by the Naam and leans on it for support. Sangaad bohai means he gives his fragrance to those around him. Think of sandalwood. Whatever sits near it starts to smell sweet too. Goodness spreads by being close.
He stays with the pure One who was never born. Kal says Guru Ram Das lives in a still pool of peace.
If your inner room were furnished with feelings, what would you want the furniture to be?
