Do not heat up your body like an oven, and do not burn your bones like firewood.

sir pairee ki-aa fayrhi-aa andar piree nihaal. ||120||
What harm have your feet and head done to you? Behold your Beloved within yourself. ||120||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

Do not heat your body like an oven, and do not burn your bones like firewood.

What wrong have your feet and your head done to you? Look for your Beloved inside you.

Be gentle with the body — the Beloved is inside you.
The deeper layer

There is no need to be hard on the body, because the Beloved is already inside.

This salok answers the one before it. Tan na tapaa-ay: do not heat the body. Had na baal: do not burn the bones. Sir pairee ki-aa fayrhi-aa: what have your head and feet done wrong, that you punish them?

Andar piree nihaal: see the Beloved within. Think of searching the whole house for your glasses while they sit on your head. What you were looking for so hard was with you all along.

A Question to Sit With

How could you be kinder to yourself today?
