Salok Bhagat Kabir, Salok 28 — put the body to good use
ਕਬੀਰ ਇਹੁ ਤਨੁ ਜਾਇਗਾ ਕਵਨੈ ਮਾਰਗਿ ਲਾਇ ॥
kabeer ih tan jaa-igaa kavnai maarag laa-ay.
Kabir, this body shall perish; place it on the path.
ਕੈ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਕਰਿ ਸਾਧ ਕੀ ਕੈ ਹਰਿ ਕੇ ਗੁਨ ਗਾਇ ॥੨੮॥
kai sangat kar saaDh kee kai har kay gun gaa-ay. ||28||
Either join the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, or sing the Glorious Praises of the Lord. ||28||

Kabir says: this body will go, so put it on a good path.
Either join the Sangat of the holy, or sing the praises of the Lord.
Since your time is short, spend it in the Sangat and in singing the One's praise.
Since the body will go, set it on a good path while you have it.
Ih tan jaa-igaa: this body will go. Kavnai maarag laa-ay: put it on some path. Two paths are named: sangat kar saadh kee, join the Sangat of the holy, the Sangat — people gathered together to remember the One; or har kay gun gaa-ay, sing the praises of the One. Knowing life is short becomes a reason to live it well now.
