Salok Bhagat Kabir, Salok 30 — the fruit that falls once

Kabir, it is so difficult to obtain this human body; it does not just come over and over again.
It is like the ripe fruit on the tree; when it falls to the ground, it cannot be re-attached to the branch. ||30||

In plain words

Kabir says: a human life is so hard to come by; it does not come again and again.

It is like ripe fruit in the forest: once it falls to the ground, it never goes back onto the branch.

This life is a rare, one-time gift, which is exactly why it matters.
The deeper layer

A human life is rare and comes once, so it is worth treasuring.

Maanas janam dulambh hai: a human birth is hard to obtain. Ho-ay na baarai baar: it does not come over and over. Ji-o ban fal paakay: like ripe fruit in the forest, which falls to the ground and bahur na laageh daar, never joins the branch again. Because this chance is precious, it is worth using well.
