Salok Bhagat Kabir, Salok 31 — the jewel and the name

ਕਬੀਰਾ ਤੁਹੀ ਕਬੀਰੁ ਤੂ ਤੇਰੋ ਨਾਉ ਕਬੀਰੁ ॥
kabeeraa tuhee kabeer too tayro naa-o kabeer.
Kabir, you are Kabir; your name means great.
ਰਾਮ ਰਤਨੁ ਤਬ ਪਾਈਐ ਜਉ ਪਹਿਲੇ ਤਜਹਿ ਸਰੀਰੁ ॥੩੧॥
raam ratan tab paa-ee-ai ja-o pahilay tajeh sareer. ||31||
O Lord, You are Kabir. The Jewel of the Lord is obtained, when the mortal first gives up his body. ||31||

In plain words

Kabir says: my name, Kabir, means "great" — but You, O Lord, are the Great One; the name Great is Yours.

The jewel of the Lord is found when you first let go of your hold on the body.

The treasure appears the moment you set down your puffed-up self.
The deeper layer

The jewel of the One is found when you stop holding on to yourself.

Kabir plays on his own name, which means "great," and gives the greatness back to the One: tayro naa-o kabeer, Yours is the name Great. The raam ratan, the jewel of the One, comes ja-o pahilay tajeh sareer, when you first give up the body. This means letting go of the self that thinks "this body is all of me," the proud "I"; it is not about ending life.
