Guru Nanak, the True Guru, loved the One with a single mind, and gave body, mind and wealth to the Lord of the World.
The Endless One placed its own image in Guru Angad, and his heart delighted in the deep wisdom of the One beyond reach.
Guru Amar Das won the Creator over. Wow, wow! Remember the One like that.
Great Guru Ram Das, your victory rings out in the world. You have reached the highest place of the One.
The same light passed from one Guru to the next, and now it shines in Guru Ram Das.
Guru Nanak loved the One with his whole heart. He gave his body, mind, and all he had. Then the endless One placed its own image in Guru Angad, whose heart delighted in deep wisdom. Guru Amar Das won the Creator over, and people cried vaahu vaahu. That is the sound you make when something takes your breath away, like "wow!" It is close kin to Waheguru, "Wonderful Guru."
Then the light reaches Guru Ram Das. The Gurus are like candles lit one from another. The candle changes. The flame is the same.
The chorus ends it again: your victory rings out, for you have reached the highest place. Here victory means arriving home in the One.
