Savaiye in Praise of Guru Nanak, Verse 10 — it settles quietly into every heart
Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa
The nine masters of yoga sing his praises. Blessed is the Guru, who has merged into the True One.
Maandhaataa, who was called ruler of the whole world, sings his praises.
King Bal, who lives in the seventh world below, sings his praises.
Bharthari, who stays always with his guru, sings his praises.
Doorbaasaa, King Puro and Angra sing the praise of Guru Nanak.
Kal the poet says: the praise of Guru Nanak has settled, easy and natural, into each and every heart.
The praise of Guru Nanak settles into every heart, ghat ghat sahj samaa-i-o, easily and naturally.
The singers are kings and yogis from the old stories: the nine Naths, masters of yoga; Maandhaataa, a world-ruling king; King Bal; Bharthari, a king who left his throne to follow his guru; and the sages Doorbaasaa and Angra. Rulers and renouncers sing side by side.
Sahj is the easy, unforced calm of a heart at home. The bard is Kal.
What is a feeling that lives quietly inside you and makes you feel at home?
