Savaiye in Praise of Guru Arjun, the Fifth (Bhatt Kall), Verse 5 — the dispeller of fear, giver of cooling peace

Guru Arjun, you are lasting and priceless, never born, existing on your own.
You break fear apart and lift away other people's pain. You are boundless and without fear.
You have grasped what no one can grasp, and burned away doubt. You give a cool, soothing peace, like shade on a hot day.
The Perfect One, the first Maker, who exists on its own, has come into the world.
First Guru Nanak, then Guru Angad and Guru Amar Das, the True Guru, have merged into the Word.
Blessed, blessed is Guru Ram Das, the stone that turns iron to gold. He touched Guru Arjun and made him his own.
Guru Arjun breaks fear apart and lifts away other people's pain, and in place of doubt he gives a cool, soothing peace.
Bha-y bhanjan par dukh nivaar means "breaker of fear, remover of others' pain." Here, greatness is measured by how much hurt it lifts off other people. Think of a friend who sees you are upset and quietly helps carry your bag.
The verse gives many names at once. He is lasting and priceless, never born and existing on his own. He is boundless and without fear. He has grasped what cannot be grasped, and burned away doubt. In him, the Perfect One has come into the world.
In place of doubt he gives seetal sukh, cool, soothing peace, like shade on a hot day.
The first Gurus, Guru Nanak, Guru Angad and Guru Amar Das, have merged into the Word. The verse ends with Dhan Dhan, "blessed, blessed," said from a full heart. Guru Ram Das is the paaras, the stone that turns iron to gold. His loving touch made Guru Arjun his own.
