The Light of God shines within them; O Nanak, they are absorbed in the Naam, the Name of the Lord. ||1||

In plain words

There is only One. And the One is found by the True Guru's grace — a gift that is always here, waiting for an open heart.

Very fortunate are the happy brides who, facing the Guru, meet the One, the Sovereign King.

Nanak says: the Light shines inside them, and they melt into the Naam.

Meet the One through the Guru, and the light within shines out.
The deeper layer

Meeting the One through the Guru, the soul's inner light shines out.

Here the voice changes to Guru Ram Das, the fourth Guru. He uses the picture of sohaaganee, happy brides, meaning souls who have found the One they love. It is a picture of love, not of being a man or a woman.

vadbhaagee-aa sohaaganee — very lucky are those who, facing the Guru, meet the Sovereign King. antar jot pargaasee-aa — the light inside them shines out. Think of a lamp with a dusty shade. Wipe the shade clean, and the light that was always there fills the room.

Then they melt into the Naam, completely at home.

A Question to Sit With

What does it feel like to finally come home to something you love?
