Of all the raags, the musical moods, the best one, my friends, is the one through which the One comes to live in the mind.
Raag and sound are all the True One; their worth cannot be told.
Yet the One is beyond raag and sound; through these alone, the Hukam, the flow of life, cannot be understood.
Nanak says: those who understand the flow find their life set right; they receive this understanding from the True Guru.
Everything comes from the One, just as the One wills.
Music is best when it brings the One to live in the mind, and the One's flow is understood through the True Guru.
Sabhnaa raagaa vich so bhalaa: among all raags, the best is the one through which the One comes to live in the mind. Raag naad sabh sach hai: melody and sound are all the True One's. Raagai naadai baahraa: still, the One is beyond them, and music alone does not bring understanding of the hukam, the flow of existence. Satgur tay sojhee paa-ay: that understanding comes from the True Guru, and for those who have it, life is set right, raas ho-ay.
