In plain words

There is only One. And the One is found by the True Guru's grace — a gift that is always here, waiting for an open heart.

Only those who never turn their faces away are dyed in love; they are the ones who have come to know the Master.

Lovers who are not yet ripe, who do not know the way of love, drop and fall away again and again.

*Love that lasts keeps facing the One and never turns away.*
The deeper layer

Love that lasts is love that keeps facing the One.

These are the first of Guru Arjan's saloks in this collection. Ratay say-ee: only they are dyed in love who never turn their faces away. They are the ones who have come to know the Master.

Kachay birhee: lovers who are still unripe. Jharh jharh pavday: they drop off again and again, the way unripe fruit falls from a tree before it is ready. They have not yet learned what love asks.

A Question to Sit With

What does it take to stay loyal to something even when it gets difficult?
