My Friend is the True Supreme King, the King over the heads of kings.
ਜਿਸੁ ਪਾਸਿ ਬਹਿਠਿਆ ਸੋਹੀਐ ਸਭਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਵੇਸਾਹੁ ॥੨੨॥
jis paas bahithi-aa sohee-ai sabhnaaN daa vaysaahu. ||22||
Sitting by His side, we are exalted and beautified; He is the Support of all. ||22||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

My Friend is the True King, the King above the heads of kings.

Sitting beside my Friend, I am made beautiful; my Friend is the trust and support of everyone.

*The One you can lean on most is both the highest King and your nearest Friend.*
The deeper layer

The Friend we love is also the greatest King of all.

sajan sachaa paatisaahu — my Friend is the true King. sir saahaa dai saahu — the King over the heads of kings. Yet this great King is also a close Friend.

jis paas bahithi-aa sohee-ai — just sitting beside this Friend, we become beautiful. Think of standing next to a bright lamp. Its light falls on you too. The One is sabhnaa daa vaysaahu, the trust and support of everyone, with no one left out.

This is the last of the Salok Vaaraan Te Vadheek, the saloks left over from the Vaars, the long ballad-poems. It ends with greatness and closeness joined together.

A Question to Sit With

Who is someone whose company makes you feel better just by being near them?
