Servant Nanak worships and adores the Naam, with love and affection for the Guru. ||39||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

Without the True Guru there is no devotion, and no love for the Naam.

Nanak says: I worship the Naam with love and affection for the Guru.

Devotion grows from love for the Guru.
The deeper layer

Devotion and love for the Naam grow through the Guru.

Bin satgur bhagat na hova-ee: without the Guru there is no bhagat, devotion. Devotion grows from a living bond with the Guru more than from willpower or duty. Gur kai hayt pi-aar: love and affection for the Guru are what keep remembrance warm and alive.
