Salok Vaaraan Te Vadheek (Mehl 3), Salok 74 — you reap what you plant
Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa
What the One, the Creator, wrote from the very beginning cannot be erased.
Body and soul all belong to the One; the Sovereign One cares for everyone.
The gossips and slanderers stay hungry and die rolling in the dust; their hands reach nothing anywhere.
On the outside they do all the proper deeds as a show, but in their minds and hearts they practice trickery.
Whatever is planted in the field of the body comes and stands before you at the end.
Nanak prays: O One, if it pleases You, forgive me and join me to You.
Whatever is planted in the field of the body comes back at the end.
Jee-o pind sabh tis daa: body and soul belong to the One, who cares for everyone. Chugal nindak: gossips and slanderers stay hungry and end up in the dust, reaching nothing. Baahar pakhand: outside, a show of good deeds; inside, kapat, trickery.
Khayt sareer jo beejee-ai: the body is a field, and whatever is sown there stands up at the end, a farming picture of karma. The salok closes with a prayer for forgiveness: if it pleases You, forgive me and join me to You.
What kind of seeds are you planting with the way you treat people?
