In plain words

Those beards are true that bow low at the feet of the True Guru.

Those who serve their Guru day and night live in joy, day and night.

Nanak says: their faces look beautiful at the door of the True One.

A life of humble service shows on the face as joy.
The deeper layer

An outward sign is true when the person wearing it bows in humility and serves.

say daarhee-aa sachee-aa — those beards are true that touch the Guru's feet. Bowing low is a picture of humility. In Sikh life, uncut hair is kept as a sign of living in tune with the way the One made us, and the sign counts when the heart matches it. Think of a team jersey: it means most when the player plays for the team.

Those who serve the Guru day and night live in anad, joy, day and night. naanak say muh sohnay — their faces look beautiful at the True Door. That glow cannot be faked.

A Question to Sit With

What is something about a person that is beautiful even though it has nothing to do with looks?
