O Nanak, whoever drinks in the Water of the Lord, shall never feel hunger again. ||55||

In plain words

O rainbird, call out the True Name, and let your heart be tuned to the True One.

Your words will be accepted if you speak as one who faces the Guru.

Know the Word, and your thirst will go; accept the flow of life as it comes.

The clouds hang low and the rain pours down on every side; the drop comes on its own, gently.

From water everything grows; without water, thirst does not go away.

Nanak says: whoever drinks the water of the One will never feel hungry again.

Tune your heart to the True One, and the longed-for drop arrives on its own.
The deeper layer

When the heart is tuned to the True One, the drop it longs for arrives on its own.

The rainbird picture goes on. The rain is grace, pouring down on all sides, and the drop comes sahj subhaa-ay, with natural ease. Jal hee tay sabh oopjai: from water everything is born, and only water ends thirst — the One is the source of all life and the only thing that satisfies.

Man lai rajaa-ay, accept the Will: this is Hukam, the flow of existence. Moving with it, a person stops straining. Har jal jin pee-aa: whoever drinks the One's water is never hungry again.

A Question to Sit With

When have you stopped straining for something, only to have it arrive gently?
