Sikhism·Dakhnee Onkaar·Shabad 111
Verse 11 of 55

Winning the Only Battle That Matters

raajan raam ravai hitkaar.
One who lovingly chants the Name of the Sovereign Lord King,
ran meh loojhai manoo-aa maar.
fights the battle and conquers his own mind;
raat dinant rahai rang raataa.
day and night, he remains imbued with the Lord's Love.
teen bhavan jug chaaray jaataa.
He is famous throughout the three worlds and the four ages.
jin jaataa so tis hee jayhaa.
One who knows the Lord, becomes like Him.
at nirmaa-il seejhas dayhaa.
He becomes absolutely immaculate, and his body is sanctified.
rahsee raam ridai ik bhaa-ay.
His heart is happy, in love with the One Lord.
antar sabad saach liv laa-ay. ||10||
He lovingly centers his attention deep within upon the True Word of the Shabad. ||10||

In plain words

Whoever lovingly chants the Naam of the One, the true King, fights the battle inside — and wins it by mastering their own mind.

Day and night they stay colored in that love.

They become known across all the worlds and all the ages.

Whoever knows the One becomes like the One — spotless and pure, body and all.

Their heart is glad, in love with the single One.

Deep inside, they hold steady to the true Word.

The hardest battle — and the one that matters — is with your own mind.
The deeper layer

Ran meh loojhai manoo-aa maar — the battle that counts is with one's own mind, and it is won by mastering it, not another person. Jin jaataa so tis hee jayhaa — the one who knows the One becomes like the One. Liv laa-ay — steady loving attention held deep within.

A Question to Sit With

What's one part of your own mind you'd most like to win over?
