Tune to the Light and Rise Beyond Scorekeeping

ਪਪਾ ਅਪਰ ਪਾਰੁ ਨਹੀ ਪਾਵਾ ॥
papaa apar paar nahee paavaa.
PAPPA: He is limitless; His limits cannot be found.
ਪਰਮ ਜੋਤਿ ਸਿਉ ਪਰਚਉ ਲਾਵਾ ॥
param jot si-o parcha-o laavaa.
I have attuned myself to the Supreme Light.
ਪਾਂਚਉ ਇੰਦ੍ਰੀ ਨਿਗ੍ਰਹ ਕਰਈ ॥
paaNcha-o indree nigreh kar-ee.
One who controls his five senses
ਪਾਪੁ ਪੁੰਨੁ ਦੋਊ ਨਿਰਵਰਈ ॥੨੭॥
paap punn do-oo nirvar-ee. ||27||
rises above both sin and virtue. ||27||

In plain words

**P** — the One has no edges. No matter how far you travel, you never reach a wall where the Oneness stops. It is limitless, endless, everywhere.

So I turn my attention toward that boundless Light, and let my heart tune to it like a string tuning to a note. And when the five senses — seeing, hearing, tasting, touching, smelling — stop dragging me every which way and settle into calm, something surprising happens: I rise above even the tug-of-war of "good deed" and "bad deed." I rest in a place quieter and freer than the endless scorekeeping of right and wrong.

Tune your heart to the limitless Light, steady your restless senses, and you rise beyond even the endless scorekeeping of right and wrong.
The deeper layer

The letter Pappa. apar paar nahee paavaa — the One is limitless, no far shore to be found. param jot si-o parcha-o laavaa — I attune, become intimate with (parchaa), the Supreme Light. Then the yogic teaching: paancha-o indree nigreh kar-ee — one who gathers and steadies the five senses paap punn do-oo nirvar-ee — rises beyond both sin and virtue. This is subtle: not that morality does not matter, but that the awakened one no longer acts from fear of punishment or hunger for reward. Goodness flows naturally, without the anxious ledger of merit and demerit. It is freedom into love, not freedom from care — the ego's scorekeeping falls away, and what remains acts rightly on its own.

A Question to Sit With

Can you think of a time you did something kind not to look good or avoid trouble — but just because it was the natural thing to do?
