The World Changes; the One Woven Through Never Does
Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa
On the second day, notice this: within the fibers of your body, two things seem to move together.
The passing, changing world we call Maya and the One are woven right through everything, side by side.
But the One never grows and never shrinks. It cannot be added to or taken from. It is beyond fully knowing, spotless and pure, and it never changes — always, only, itself.
The world keeps changing, but the One woven through it never changes.
This is day two. Dutee-aa means "second," and Kabir plays with the number two. Dutee-aa duh kar jaanai ang — know that inside the body there seem to be two. Maa-i-aa barahm ramai sabh sang — Maya and Barahm are blended through everything. Maya is the shifting world of how things look. Barahm is the One.
Then Kabir melts the two back into one. Naa oh badhai na ghattaa jaa-ay — the One never grows and never shrinks. Akul niranjan aykai bhaa-ay — it is akul, beyond any family line. It is niranjan, spotless and untouched. And it stays aykai bhaa-ay, always the same.
Think of the ocean and its waves. Waves rise and fall all day long, but the water stays water. The "two" we seem to see is really the unchanging One and its own play.
What is one thing in your life that stays the same no matter how much everything around it changes?
