Even Your Turning Toward the One Is the One at Work
Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa
On the fourth day, gently take hold of your restless, jumpy mind — the one that leaps from thought to thought.
Don't sit down and keep company with grabbing wants or anger; you don't have to let them run the show.
And remember: on land and in sea, the One is entirely, only itself — filling everything. It is even the One who does the remembering; the awareness in you that turns toward it is already the One at work.
Hold your restless mind steady. Even your turning toward the One is the One at work.
This is day four. Cha-othahi means "fourth." Cha-othahi chanchal man ka-o gahhu — take hold of the chanchal man, the fickle mind that flickers from thought to thought. It is like a puppy chasing every leaf that blows past.
Kaam krodh sang kabahu na bahhu — never sit down in the company of kaam, grabbing desire, or krodh, anger.
Then comes a deep turn. Jal thal maahay aapeh aap — in water and on land, the One is aapeh aap, all Itself. Aapai japahu aapnaa jaap — the One even does its own remembering.
Read through Ik Onkar, the One that is everything, this changes how we see spiritual work. There is no small, separate self doing it alone. The very attention that turns toward the One is already the One, turning toward Itself.
When your mind is jumping all over the place, what's one calm thing you can bring it back to?
