Let Go of Separateness and the Grim Effort Lifts
Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa
On the sixth day, notice how the energy in the body wants to run outward in every direction, scattering and searching.
Without a settled, awake heart, nothing stays steady; the mind just keeps wandering.
So let go of the feeling of being split in two — you and the One — and hold tight instead to forgiveness. Live gently and let things go, and you won't have to carry the heavy weight of grim rituals or the ache of ‘earning’ your way.
When you stop feeling split off from the One and hold on to forgiveness, a heavy load lifts.
This is day six. Chhath means "sixth." The khat chakar, the six chakras, run off in six directions. In old Indian teaching, chakras are energy centers in the body. So this is a picture of scattered, restless energy. Think of a bag of marbles spilling across the floor, rolling every which way.
Bin parchai nahee thiraa rahaa-ay — without parchai, a settled, awake knowing of the One, nothing stays steady.
The cure comes next. Dubidhaa mayt khimaa geh rahhu — wipe away dubidhaa and hold on to khimaa. Dubidhaa is the feeling of two, of being split off from the One. Khimaa is forgiveness and gentleness.
Karam dharam kee sool na sahhu — then you will not bear the sool, the sharp pain, of grim ritual. That means the tiring work of trying to earn your way with rules and good-deed points. The verse's point is that forgiveness lifts the load. It is not saying that punishment is waiting.
When someone hurts you, what makes it easier to forgive and let it go?
