Every Day of the Week Is a Day to Turn to the One
Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa
One Oneness, known through the grace that is always here.
Here begin the seven days of the week: over and over, on every single day, sing the wonders of the One.
And meeting a true teacher, you come to know the open secret of the One — not locked away for special days, but available every ordinary day of the week.
Every ordinary day is a good day to sing about the One.
This begins another short poem, again with its own blessing, Ik Onkar Satgur Prasaad: there is One, known through the grace that is always here. Its title is the Seven Days of the Week of Kabir, in Raag Gauree. The poem before this walked through the days of the moon. This one walks through the days of the week.
This is the Rahao, the "pause" line. It is the center of the whole poem. Baar baar har kay gun gaava-o — again and again, sing the One's praises. That means every day, without waiting for a special one. Gur gam bhayd so har kaa paava-o — meeting the Guru, you come to know the bhayd, the secret, of the One.
Think of saying good morning to someone you love. You don't save it for birthdays. It belongs to every day. So the stage is set. Remembering the One is not kept for special dates. Every day is a day to turn toward the One.
Is there something worth doing every day, not just on special occasions?
