Let the Word Trickle Through You Like Cool Moonlight

ਸੋਮਵਾਰਿ ਸਸਿ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਝਰੈ ॥
somvaar sas amrit jharai.
On Monday, the Ambrosial Nectar trickles down from the moon.
ਚਾਖਤ ਬੇਗਿ ਸਗਲ ਬਿਖ ਹਰੈ ॥
chaakhat bayg sagal bikh harai.
Tasting it, all poisons are removed in an instant.
ਬਾਣੀ ਰੋਕਿਆ ਰਹੈ ਦੁਆਰ ॥
banee roki-aa rahai du-aar.
Restrained by Gurbani, the mind remains indoors;
ਤਉ ਮਨੁ ਮਤਵਾਰੋ ਪੀਵਨਹਾਰ ॥੨॥
ta-o man matvaaro peevanhaar. ||2||
drinking in this Nectar, it is intoxicated. ||2||

In plain words

Monday: imagine a cool, sweet nectar trickling down inside you, like moonlight turned to water.

The moment you taste it, whatever was troubling or poisoning your heart is gently washed clean away.

Held safe and steady by the beautiful Word, the mind stops running out the doors and stays home. Drinking that sweetness, it grows glad and light, quietly filled with joy.

Let the sweetness of the sacred Word trickle through you like cool moonlight — and whatever was troubling your heart is washed gently clean.
The deeper layer

somvaar (Monday, the moon’s day — som/sas = moon): sas amrit jharai — amrit (nectar) trickles from the moon. chaakhat bayg sagal bikh harai — tasting it, all bikh (poison — read as inner trouble/harm) is instantly removed. banee roki-aa rahai du-aar — held by Banee (the sacred Word), the mind “stays at the door” — stops leaking outward. ta-o man matvaaro peevanhaar — then the man (mind) becomes matvaaro (joyfully intoxicated, glad) as it drinks. The moon-day naturally carries the moon-nectar image; bikh is gentled from “poison” to inner trouble washed clean.

A Question to Sit With

What is something that calms and refreshes your heart when it feels troubled?
