Sikhism·Raag Aasaa·Shabad 104
Verse 6 of 6

Belong to the One and There's Nothing Left to Defend

ਜੀਉ ਪਿੰਡੁ ਸਭੁ ਹਰਿ ਕਾ ਮਾਲੁ ॥
jee-o pind sabh har kaa maal.
This body and soul all belong to the Lord.
ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਰ ਮਿਲਿ ਭਏ ਨਿਹਾਲ ॥੫॥੧੩॥
naanak gur mil bha-ay nihaal. ||5||13||
O Nanak, meeting the Guru, I am enraptured. ||5||13||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

This body and soul all belong to the One.

Says Nanak: meeting the Guru, I am filled with joy.

Once you know you belong to the One, there's nothing left to defend — only joy.
The deeper layer

The close lets go of ownership: "this body and soul all belong to the Lord." Once the self is the One's, there is nothing left to defend or lose — and meeting the Guru, the soul is "enraptured." The riddle of dying-to-live resolves in joy.

A Question to Sit With

What would you stop worrying about if you trusted you were not your own, but held?
