In plain words

The five companions have gathered to sing songs of joy;

the unstruck melody hums and resounds.

Even the five restless passions can become a choir of joy when the heart is aligned.
The deeper layer

This one is about how even our strongest feelings can learn to sing together.

Panch sakhee mil mangal gaa-i-aa — the five companions come together to sing songs of joy.

In an earlier shabad, the five passions were like bullies. They were strong wanting, anger, greed, clinging, and pride, working to pull the soul away from the One. Here they turn into a choir.

When these strong feelings are guided well, they don't disappear. They join the music. Think of a noisy class that settles down and sings one song together.

Anhad banee naad vajaa-i-aa — and underneath, the "anhad," the unstruck melody, keeps playing. It is a music no one has to play, always humming deep inside.

A Question to Sit With

Could a part of you that usually causes trouble be turned toward something good instead?
