Aasaa, Fifth Mehl:
ਨਿਕਟਿ ਜੀਅ ਕੈ ਸਦ ਹੀ ਸੰਗਾ ॥
nikat jee-a kai sad hee sangaa.
He is near at hand; He is the eternal Companion of the soul.
ਕੁਦਰਤਿ ਵਰਤੈ ਰੂਪ ਅਰੁ ਰੰਗਾ ॥੧॥
kudrat vartai roop ar rangaa. ||1||
His Creative Power is all-pervading, in form and color. ||1||

The One beside you is the same One filling every form and color in the world.
The One is right beside you, and the One is also everywhere.
Nikat jee-a kai sad hee sangaa — the One is close to the soul, its companion always. Like a friend who sits next to you on every bus ride, the One never leaves.
Kudrat vartai roop ar rangaa — the One's kudrat, the power that makes things, fills every shape and every color. The same One who is close beside you is the power behind the whole world you can see.
