In plain words

Gurbani — the Guru's Word — is the jewel, the treasure of devotion.

Singing it, hearing it, living it, the soul is carried away in joy.

The Word is a jewel not just to read, but to sing, hear, and live.
The deeper layer

The Guru's Word is a jewel, and it is meant to be lived.

Gurbani is the Word of the Gurus, the hymns of the Guru Granth Sahib. Bhagat bhandaar gurbaanee laal — Gurbani is a jewel, a treasure-house of devotion, of loving the One.

Now look at the three doing-words: gaavat sunat kamaavat — singing it, hearing it, living it. The Word is not only for reading. It is for living. Think of a song you love so much that you hum it all day. Living the Word is what fills the soul with joy — nihaal, overflowing with delight.

A Question to Sit With

What truth in your life is one you don't just know, but actually live by?
