The One's Taste Colors You for Good

aasaa mehlaa 5 tipday 2.
Aasaa, Fifth Mehl, Ti-Padas:
har ras peevat sad hee raataa.
One who drinks in the Lord's sublime essence is forever imbued with it,
aan rasaa khin meh leh jaataa.
while other essences wear off in an instant.
har ras kay maatay man sadaa anand.
Intoxicated with the Lord's sublime essence, the mind is forever in ecstasy.
aan rasaa meh vi-aapai chind. ||1||
Other essences bring only anxiety. ||1||

In plain words

Whoever drinks the One's deep essence is colored by it forever. All other flavors wear off in a moment.

Swept up in the One's essence, the mind is in lasting joy. Every other essence brings only worry.

The One's taste colors you for good; every other flavor wears off and leaves you anxious.
The deeper layer

This one says the taste of the One stays with you, while other tastes fade fast.

Har ras means "the One's sweet taste," the joy of being close to the One. Har ras peevat sad hee raataa means "whoever drinks it is colored by it forever." Aan rasaa khin meh leh jaataa means "other tastes wear off in a moment."

Think of the fizz in a soda. It is exciting for a minute, then it goes flat. Now think of a hug from someone who loves you. The warmth stays with you all day.

There is more. Har ras kay maatay man sadaa anand means "filled with the One's taste, the mind is always in joy." But aan rasaa meh vi-aapai chind means "other tastes bring worry." Worldly fun fades, and often leaves restlessness behind. The One's taste leaves lasting peace.

A Question to Sit With

What pleasure fades fast and leaves you restless — and what stays and settles you?
