Aasaa, Fifth Mehl:
ਤੁਝ ਬਿਨੁ ਅਵਰੁ ਨਾਹੀ ਮੈ ਦੂਜਾ ਤੂੰ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ ਮਾਹੀ ॥
tujh bin avar naahee mai doojaa tooN mayray man maahee.
Without You, there is no other for me; You alone are in my mind.
ਤੂੰ ਸਾਜਨੁ ਸੰਗੀ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਮੇਰਾ ਕਾਹੇ ਜੀਅ ਡਰਾਹੀ ॥੧॥
tooN saajan sangee parabh mayraa kaahay jee-a daraahee. ||1||
You are my Friend and Companion, God; why should my soul be afraid? ||1||

Without You there is no other for me; You alone are in my mind.
You are my Friend and Companion, God — so why should my soul ever be afraid?
When the One is your constant friend, what is there for your soul to fear?
The shabad opens in fearlessness born of companionship: "You are my Friend and Companion... why should my soul be afraid?" When the One is your constant friend, fear loses its ground — there is no situation you face alone.
