Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa
The soul who has the One as her Friend —
her pain is lifted, and she will never be sad again.
This is the pause line, the Rahao, the center of the shabad. It says that a person who has the One as a Friend has a gladness that stays.
Jaa kaa har su-aamee parabh baylee — she who has the Lord God as her Friend. Peerh ga-ee fir nahee duhaylee — her pain is gone, and she will not be sad again.
This does not mean nothing hard will ever happen. Pain may still come. But underneath it there is a floor that holds. Think of a house in a storm. The wind can rattle the windows, but the ground under the house stays put.
To have the One as your Friend is to stand on that ground. The deep, settled gladness cannot finally be lost.
A heading above these lines marks a group of thirty-four shabads, all set in the same musical setting.
Who is a friend whose presence makes even hard times bearable?
