Practice Opens the Door; Meeting Is Grace

This one says that finding the One, in the end, is a gift.

Kaho naanak jaa kay pooran karam — "says Nanak, the one blessed with truly good karam." Here karam means the grace and good destiny the One gives. That person satgur bhaytay — meets the True Guru, and through the Guru finds the Perfect One.

The shabad has asked us to practice every day. Now it tells us the last step is not ours. Practice is like studying hard. Grace is like the teacher opening the door. We keep doing our part, and the meeting comes as a gift, not from being clever.
