Becoming merciful to me, like a mother or a father, he has come to cherish me as His own child. ||1||
Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa
He has cut my bonds and overlooked my faults — that is simply His nature.
Growing merciful, like a mother and father, He has come to cherish me as His own child.
The One overlooks your faults and cherishes you the way a mother and father cherish their child.
Grace is shown as parental tenderness: the One "becoming merciful... like a mother or a father, cherishes me as His own child." And crucially, He "overlooked my shortcomings" — grace is not bookkeeping but a parent's love that simply forgives. The divine is imaged as both mother and father, beyond gender, wholly tender.
A Question to Sit With
What does it feel like to be loved by someone who simply overlooks your faults?
