Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

The Guru's Sikhs are kept safe by the Guru, by the Lord of all.

He rescues them from the terrible ocean, casting His Glance of Grace on them.

The disciple doesn't cross the deep alone — the Guru lifts them across.
The deeper layer

The Pause names the protection: "the GurSikhs are preserved by the Guru," rescued from "the terrible world ocean" by the Glance of Grace (nadar). The disciple does not swim the ocean alone; the Guru lifts them across.

A Question to Sit With

Who has carried you across something you couldn't have crossed alone?
