I have escaped the clutches of others. ||2||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

My Beloved has drawn me close and seated me beside Him;

I have slipped free of every other grip.

Being drawn close to the One is the same moment as being freed from everything else's grip.
The deeper layer

This one says that being drawn close to the One is the same moment as being set free.

Nikat aan pari-a sayj Dharee — "my Beloved drew me close and seated me beside Him." Kaan kadhan tay chhoot paree — "I slipped free from the grip of others."

The "others" are the strong pulls inside us, like greed, anger, and Maya, the shiny pull of the world. Another shabad in Aasaa pictures them as a bossy household the soul once lived under. Think of a magnet. When a stronger magnet comes near, the pin jumps to it and leaves the weaker ones behind. Being drawn close to the One and being released from everything else happen at once.

A Question to Sit With

What loosens its hold on you when you draw closer to what you truly love?
