Once Pride Quiets, the Heart Becomes a Lit Room

ਮੰਦਰਿ ਮੇਰੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਉਜਾਰਾ ॥
mandar mayrai sabad ujaaraa.
In the mansion of my heart, shines the Light of the Shabad.
ਅਨਦ ਬਿਨੋਦੀ ਖਸਮੁ ਹਮਾਰਾ ॥੩॥
anad binodee khasam hamaaraa. ||3||
My Husband Lord is blissful and playful. ||3||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

In the mansion of my heart, the Light of the Word now shines.

My Beloved is full of bliss and delight.

Once pride quiets, the heart becomes a lit room where a joyful, playful Beloved delights.
The deeper layer

This one says that once pride goes quiet, the heart becomes a bright room.

Mandar mayrai sabad ujaaraa — "in the house of my heart, the Light of the Shabad shines." The Shabad is the Guru's Word. Anad binodee khasam hamaaraa — "my Beloved is full of joy and play."

Notice this picture of the One: not a stern judge, but a joyful, even playful presence. Think of walking into a dark room and flipping on the light. Everything you could not see is suddenly clear. The heart that let go of pride becomes that lit room, and the Beloved delights to be there.

A Question to Sit With

What does it feel like when something joyful 'lights up' inside you?
