Aasaa, Fifth Mehl:
ਰਾਜ ਲੀਲਾ ਤੇਰੈ ਨਾਮਿ ਬਨਾਈ ॥
raaj leelaa tayrai naam banaa-ee.
The pleasures of royalty are derived from Your Name.
ਜੋਗੁ ਬਨਿਆ ਤੇਰਾ ਕੀਰਤਨੁ ਗਾਈ ॥੧॥
jog bani-aa tayraa keertan gaa-ee. ||1||
I attain Yoga, singing the Kirtan of Your Praises. ||1||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

The pleasures of royalty come from Your Name;

singing Your praises, I attain true union.

Real royalty and real union both flow from the same source — the Name.
The deeper layer

The prizes people chase, like power and holiness, both come from the same Name.

"The pleasures of royalty are derived from Your Name," the verse says. And "I attain Yoga," which here means union with the One, simply by singing the Kirtan, the praise-songs.

People think of these as two different goals. One is a worldly prize, like being a king. The other is a holy prize, like the deep stillness yogis work for. Think of two taps in one kitchen. They look separate, but the water comes from the same pipe. Real royalty and real union both flow from the Name. Praise itself is the yoga, a turning inward.

A Question to Sit With

What if the things people chase separately all came from one source?
