Serving You, who, who has not been saved? ||1||Pause||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

I beg for the sight of You; please give it to me, Beloved!

Serving You, who has ever gone unsaved?

No one who turns to serve the One is ever turned away.
The deeper layer

This one says no one who turns to serve the One is ever turned away.

This is the Rahao, the "pause" line at the center of the shabad. It begs for Darshan, which means "a glimpse" or "sight" of the One.

Then it asks a question with an easy answer. Tumree sayvaa ka-un ka-un na taaray — who has served You and not been saved? No one. Everyone who serves is carried across.

Think of a door that is always open. No one checks your name or asks what you have. You just walk in. That includes the unknown person in the first verse of this shabad.

A Question to Sit With

What would it mean to believe that no one is finally beyond saving?
