Verse 3 of 5

Grace Turns the Unwanted Into the Revered

ਜਾ ਕੈ ਨਿਕਟਿ ਨ ਆਵੈ ਕੋਈ ॥
jaa kai nikat na aavai ko-ee.
That person, whom no one wants to be near
ਸਗਲ ਸ੍ਰਿਸਟਿ ਉਆ ਕੇ ਚਰਨ ਮਲਿ ਧੋਈ ॥੨॥
sagal sarisat u-aa kay charan mal Dho-ee. ||2||
- the whole world comes to wash the dirt of his feet. ||2||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

The person no one wants to come near —

the whole world comes to wash the dust of his feet.

Grace can turn the one no one wanted near into the one everyone reveres.
The deeper layer

This one says grace turns someone unwanted into someone honored.

The verse starts with a person no one wants to be near. Then everything flips. Sagal sarisat u-aa kay charan mal dho-ee — the whole world comes to wash the dust from that person's feet. Washing someone's feet is a sign of deep respect.

Grace does more than let the left-out person in. It makes them honored. The lowest, touched by the Name, becomes the one others look up to.

Think of a new kid who sits alone at lunch. A year later, that same kid is the one everyone goes to for help, because they are so kind.

Shabad 135 shows this same turnaround.

A Question to Sit With

What changes a person from avoided to admired?
