Use This Rare Life Well and You Win It

ਆਸਾ ਮਹਲਾ ੫ ॥
aasaa mehlaa 5.
Aasaa, Fifth Mehl:
ਕੋਟਿ ਜਨਮ ਕੇ ਰਹੇ ਭਵਾਰੇ ॥
kot janam kay rahay bhavaaray.
My wandering through millions of births has ended.
ਦੁਲਭ ਦੇਹ ਜੀਤੀ ਨਹੀ ਹਾਰੇ ॥੧॥
dulabh dayh jeetee nahee haaray. ||1||
I have won, and not lost, this human body, so difficult to obtain. ||1||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

My wandering through millions of births is over.

I have won this human body — so hard to obtain — and not lost it.

To use this rare human life well is to 'win' it rather than waste it.
The deeper layer

The human birth is framed as a game won: "I have won, and not lost, this human body, so difficult to obtain." The rare chance (cf. Shabad 120) can be won or squandered; here it is won, ending "millions of births" of wandering.

A Question to Sit With

What would it mean to feel you'd won this life rather than thrown it away?
