Verse 2 of 5

The Dust of Good Company Cleanses More Than Ritual

ਕਿਲਬਿਖ ਬਿਨਾਸੇ ਦੁਖ ਦਰਦ ਦੂਰਿ ॥
kilbikh binaasay dukh darad door.
My sins have been erased, and my sufferings and pains are gone.
ਭਏ ਪੁਨੀਤ ਸੰਤਨ ਕੀ ਧੂਰਿ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
bha-ay puneet santan kee Dhoor. ||1|| rahaa-o.
I have been sanctified by the dust of the feet of the Saints. ||1||Pause||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

My sins are erased, my sufferings and pains gone.

I have been made pure by the dust of the Saints' feet.

The humble dust of good company cleanses more than any ritual washing.
The deeper layer

The Pause: "sanctified by the dust of the feet of the Saints." Purity comes not from ritual washing but from the humble dust of the Saints — the lowest thing in the holiest company (cf. Shabad 116). Humility in good company cleanses.

A Question to Sit With

Whose company leaves you feeling cleaner and better inside?
