When the Stubborn Mind Quiets, Life Tastes Sweet

ਬਿਨਸਿਓ ਮਨ ਕਾ ਮੂਰਖੁ ਢੀਠਾ ॥
binsi-o man kaa moorakh dheethaa.
The stubborn foolishness of my mind is gone;
ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕਾ ਭਾਣਾ ਲਾਗਾ ਮੀਠਾ ॥੨॥
parabh kaa bhaanaa laagaa meethaa. ||2||
God's Will has become sweet to me. ||2||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

The stubborn foolishness of my mind is gone;

God's Will has become sweet to me.

When the stubborn mind finally quiets, the flow of life itself starts to taste sweet.
The deeper layer

This one says that when the stubborn mind calms down, life starts to taste sweet.

This is the turning point of the whole shabad. Binsi-o man kaa moorakh dheethaa — the stubborn, foolish part of my mind is gone. Prabh kaa bhaanaa laagaa meethaa — the One's will now tastes sweet to me.

The One's will is also called Hukam, the way life unfolds. Bhaanaa meethaa means "the will tastes sweet."

Here is the surprise. The will did not change. The mind did. Think of eating your vegetables while grumbling. They taste awful. On a day you are happy and grateful, the same food tastes fine. Shabad 60 teaches this same idea.

A Question to Sit With

What might taste sweet that now tastes bitter, if you stopped resisting it?
