One Act of Humble Surrender Washes a Long Past

ਗੁਰ ਪੂਰੇ ਕੇ ਚਰਣ ਗਹੇ ॥
gur pooray kay charan gahay.
I have grasped the Feet of the Perfect Guru,
ਕੋਟਿ ਜਨਮ ਕੇ ਪਾਪ ਲਹੇ ॥੩॥
kot janam kay paap lahay. ||3||
and the sins of countless incarnations have been washed away. ||3||

In plain words

I have grasped the Feet of the perfect Guru.

And the sins of countless lifetimes are washed away.

One act of humble surrender can wash away a very long past.
The deeper layer

This one says that one humble act of holding on to the Guru can wash away a long past.

Gur pooray kay charan gahay — I have held on to the feet of the perfect Guru. Holding someone's feet is a picture of being humble and trusting them fully.

Kot janam kay paap lahay — the wrongs of countless lifetimes are washed away. The long past is not cleared by years of hard punishment. It is cleared by one real act of holding on to the Guru.

Think of a messy room you have avoided for weeks. It feels too big to fix. Then a parent says, "Come on, let's do it together," and takes your hand. It suddenly becomes possible. Shabad 100 speaks of the same thing.

A Question to Sit With

What would it feel like to have a long burden simply washed clean?
