Verse 4 of 5

With Every Quality and Beyond All, the One Is Not Two

ਸਰਗੁਣ ਨਿਰਗੁਣ ਥਾਪੈ ਨਾਉ ॥
sargun nirgun thaapai naa-o.
He is said to be of the highest attributes, and without attributes.
ਦੁਹ ਮਿਲਿ ਏਕੈ ਕੀਨੋ ਠਾਉ ॥੩॥
duh mil aykai keeno thaa-o. ||3||
Both converge onto His single point. ||3||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

He is called the One of highest qualities, and also the One beyond all qualities.

Both meet in Him, at a single point.

The One with every quality and the One beyond all qualities are not two — they meet in a single point.
The deeper layer

The One is both "of the highest attributes" (sargun) and "without attributes" (nirgun) — and "both converge onto His single point." The personal, quality-full God and the formless Absolute are named here as one; readers can sit with that poetic unity without forcing a philosophical resolution (cf. Shabad 37).

A Question to Sit With

Can two opposite descriptions both be true of the same deeper thing?
